Our picks are a starting point. Already got something, or don’t need it? Tap “Got it” and it comes out of your basket.
As a rough guide: about 25 boxes for a one-bedroom home, 40 for two bedrooms, 55 for three and 70 for four. Allow a few less if you moved in recently, and more if you’ve been there over ten years, because lofts fill up. Removal firms’ own estimates vary a lot, so treat it as a starting point.
Your bank and card providers, energy and water suppliers (take meter readings and photos on moving day), your council, TV Licensing, the electoral roll, your GP and dentist, your employer and your insurers. Update your driving licence address once you’ve moved, and think about redirecting your post for a few months.
A small flat can be a manageable do-it-yourself move with a hired van and some friends. For bigger homes, a removal firm takes away a lot of the stress, and many will supply boxes or even pack for you, so ask when you get a quote.
A standard UK car licence usually lets you drive a van up to 3.5 tonnes. Check the hire firm’s rules before you book.
For a two-bedroom home, everything on our list comes to about £180 with a removal firm, or about £230 if you’re doing it yourself, including blankets, straps and sliders. Prices change, so the list shows the latest estimate.
Everything is on Amazon, so it goes into one basket in a tap. We earn a small commission when you buy, at no extra cost to you, and no one can pay to be on the list.
